Almansa, south east of Madrid is situated on the eastern edge of Spain’s central plateau before it drops down towards Alicante on the coast. It is adjacent to the other wine-growing regions of Valencia, Jumilla and Alicante.

Almanseñas is a modern winery based in the Venta la Vega estate, named after a famous ancient hostelry on the Camino Real route.

The 215 ha of vineyards are on limestone soils with pebbles on the surface and have sandy rather than clay areas. Over 100 ha are planted with Monastrell and Garnacha. The average height is 850m above sea level and the climate is a mixture of Continental and Mediterranean.

The Bodega specialises in the traditional vines of the region: Monastrell (Mourvedre) and Garnacha Tintorera. The latter, thanks to great care and attention in the vineyards, has been transformed from a grape formally used to just add colour to an expressive, quality varietal now important to the taste profile of these wines.

Bodegas Almanseñas:

La Huella Blanco is a full and distinctive wine showing stone fruits on the palate, backed by tropical fruit flavours and juicy pineapple on the finish.

Calizo has Garnacha dominant in the blend and a little ‘semi-crianza’ oak aging has created a wine with distinct floral notes and a very light, vibrant body backed by plenty of sweet fruit.

Aldea, 100% Monastrell, is aged mainly in steel tanks though 20% has 6-8 months in new French oak barrels creating a full, fruity, spicy wine with soft tannins and good varietal chatacter.

La Huella Tinto is sourced from 30 year old vines and with 60% of the blend having 6-8 months oak ageing. The wine has deep colour and flavours with a rounded finish: a true ‘terroir’ wine.
